A few weeks ago, we decided to delay the student referendum for a new campus recreational facility until next year (hopefully). As I informed the groups about this decision, I was once again reminded of the exceptional integrity that students at the University of Arkansas possess. While many expressed open disappointment at the time of my announcement; almost all began thinking of what needed to be done next. I marveled at this showing of positive thinking and action.
I recently came across a definition of a winner that depicts the hundreds of students who helped with the campus recreation facility project. They are all wonderful people from all walks of life but they have one thing in common. They are all winners. Here is that definition of a winner that also defines the UA student body.
Winner versus Loser
The Winner—is always part of the answer;
The Loser—is always part of the problem;
The Winner—always has a program;
The Loser—always has an excuse;
The Winner—says, “Let me do it for you;”
The Loser—says, “That’s not my job;”
The Winner—sees an answer for every problem;
The Loser—sees a problem for every answer;
The Winner—sees a green near every sand trap;
The Loser—sees two or three sand traps near every green;
The Winner—says, “It may be difficult but it’s possible;”
The Loser—says, “It may be possible but it’s too difficult.”
Be A Winner!
