“Dost thou love life?”
“Then do not squander time,
for that’s the stuff life is made of.”
Benjamin Franklin
Few of us are able to completely follow the advice of Benjamin Franklin. Most of us want to. Even with the best of intentions, it is much easier to live a life of unproductive use of time. I am writing today to urge you to take stock in your daily routine and make a change for productive habits. But, more importantly, make a change for healthy, life-changing habits. Once you have developed healthy habits, your time will naturally become valuable and you will begin making wiser time decisions.
I challenge you to take the months of January and February to begin planning for those healthy, life-changing moments and experiences. Visit the Donna Axum Fitness Center, participate in an aerobic class, play an intramural sport, experience an outdoor adventure trip with the Outdoor Connection Center, work with a personal trainer, or play a game of basketball. IMRS sponsors hundreds of participation time options. Trust me; you will realize the benefits by the month of March. You will be happier, your grades will be better, you will meet new friends, you will strengthen old relationships, you will be healthier, and you will have developed some wise time-use habits. Lastly, participate with a partner. Exercising or recreating together will expedite this process.
Last month I wrote about some of the significant accomplishments that IMRS was able to achieve with your help. It always amazes me just how much can be accomplished when people work collaboratively. Growing up on the windswept plains of Kansas, I saw how a single tree always leaned away from the wind but a grove of trees were able to stand straight and true. I am lucky to be part of a grove of young people that can stand straight and true. The young people who attend the University of Arkansas are truly special.
Have a great spring semester. See you in the HPER.
