Why is it a requirement to show an ID before entering the HPER building?

While showing your ID before entering the building may seem redundant or a nuisance, it is quite necessary. The HPER building is a service-oriented facility to the entire University community and can only maintain the quality of service by supplementing revenues. Thousands of people enter the building each year, which makes it particularly difficult to differentiate between members and non-members. The electronic ID system makes this process easier, as the facility and equipment are limited to paying customers only. Since the HPER only has University affiliated members, it is very important to make sure that the people that pay for the services are the ones receiving them.
