 IMRS Holiday Hours

Intramural/Recreational Sports will be open over the holiday break.  Hours will be limited as use is down and staff is short, but we are excited about being able to continue to provide recreational opportunities for you and your family over the holiday.  Holiday hours begin Wednesday, December 12, 2007.  A detailed list specifying dates and times can be found at http://imrs.uark.edu/4665.htm.  For more information related to building hours, please contact Jeremy Battjes at 479.575.6381.  Enjoy your time off!!

Gym 1, Dance Studio 216 and 220 Closed December 12 - 26, 2007

In an effort to maintain the hardwood floors in Gym 1 and Dance Studios 216 and 220 we will be refinishing the floors over the holiday break. While this project takes place these activity areas will be closed.  The project will create a large amount of dust.  We have plans to seal off all rooms to limit this dust to these activity areas only.  As crews enter and leave the worksite, it is possible that some of this dust may enter the hallways. IMRS will be monitoring halls closely to make sure they are clean and safe for members.  When crews begin to seal and finish the floors there be a strong odor from the finish.  While the finish and sealant is safe, it has been known to give some people headaches.  Please use caution as you come and go on the second floor.

Group Ex American Idol

Fitness/Wellness held an Instructor Idol competition in November.  During Group Exercise classes, participants voted on instructors that they believed best fit the categories of Most Energetic, Most Creative, and Best Workout. They could vote for every category every time they took a class. The winners were Chance as the Most Energetic instructor, Jennifer and Lee Ann as the Most Creative, and Meredith as the Best Workout. Winners were announced at the IMRS Student-Employee Appreciation luncheon on December 5, 2007.  Thanks to all participants who voted!  See you in January.

Softball Club Finishes First

After three straight years of disappointing loses in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds to conclude the Fayetteville Coed Softball Fall Season, the Softball Club (#1 West Seed) finally captured the tournament title by out-slugging the Outlaws (#1 East Seed)  in the championship game 23 to 8.  During the regular season, the club compiled a record of 15-0 against their Thursday Night West Division foes, surpassing the previous best of 12-3 set by the 2005 team.  On their way to securing the tournament championship, the Softball Club defeated Superior Industries in the quarterfinal round and The Rounders in the semifinal round, who each had participated in the Wednesday Night East Division.  The Softball Club has competed in the Coed Softball Fall Season over the last four years and has compiled an overall record of 55-15 while securing two division titles and one tournament championship.

Outdoor Connection Center Updates

During the holiday break, the Outdoor Connection Center will be running some awesome trips! We are heading to Ouray, CO for Ice Climbing and Breckenridge, CO for skiing. Our holiday hours:  The Climbing wall will be closed until January 14th, 2008 and the Outdoor Center will be open Monday-Friday 12-6pm, closed on the weekends.

Staff Highlight
Matthew Ramsey
Systems Administrator

Matthew has worked for the University of Arkansas since January of 2003 for both University Housing and Intramural/Recreational Sports.  He received a BSBA in Information Systems with an interdisciplinary minor in Enterprise Resource Planning in May of 2006 and is currently completing coursework for a Master of Information Systems degree.

Matthew joined IMRS as a full time staff member in December of 2005 and since that time he has moved IMRS forMatthew Ramseyward dramatically, keeping the staff current with the technology operating standards of the University.  Matthew has made major contributions to technology side of IMRS including installing a wireless network, three touch screen kiosks, improving our server room operations, assisting with the implementation of video conferencing equipment, maintaining SMART technology in HPER classrooms, and keeping the IMRS staff's heads above water---just to name a few.

Matthew has done so well here and continued to supplement his education that Colgate-Palmolive has stolen Matthew from us. In January, Matthew will leave IMRS to begin working for them.  If you have an opportunity, please stop by and congratulate Matthew and wish him well as he seeks new ways to challenge himself professionally.

BEST OF LUCK MATT!!!
You will be missed!!!!
