The winter break schedule for December 12, 2007 to January 13, 2007 has been updated and can be found here.
We want to take an opportunity to remind our members who might have lockers or memberships that expire December 15, 2007 stop in and renew their membersip and locker prior to December 15, 2007. This will allow for uniterrupted service and avoid a $2.00 service fee for retrieving your belongings that were in your locker. Save yourself the headache and renew during 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, Monday - Friday, 9:00 am to 8:00 pm on Saturday, and 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sundays. Students MUST be pre-enrolled in ISIS for the spring semester in order to renew their lockers. E-mail reminder were sent to those with valid e-mail addresses on file and those who have not opted out of recieving e-mail from IMRS. Thanks for choosing Intramural/Recreational Sports as your recreational facility.
Intramural/Recreational Sports Job Fair
Intramural/Recreational Sports is having open interviews for Spring 2008 on Thursday, November 29 at 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. in HPER Room 103. These interviews give students an opportunity to learn more about IMRS and its various job positions. Interviews are on a first come, first serve basis.
The end of the semester may be rapidly approaching but the Outdoor Connection Center has some big things in store! The annual Holiday Climbing Competition is happening again this year! And once again we are having this fun-filled event on Dead Day Eve (Dec. 4). Registration cost is only $10 for students and $20 for faculty, staff and HPER members which includes a t-shirt, food, and a chance to win door prizes The registration deadline is Nov. 30 at 6:00 p.m.
Want to go skiing in the Rocky Mountains? The OCC is taking a charter bus to Breckenridge, CO for an awesome ski trip! The trip runs from Jan. 6 – 12, 2008. The registration deadline is Dec. 3 at 6:00 p.m. and requires a $99 deposit. The cost is $449 for students and $499 for faculty, staff and HPER members. Cost includes transportation, lodging and lift tickets. Sign up today before your spot is taken!
It may be getting chilly outside but we have the beach on our minds as we are planning a sea kayaking trip to Baja, Mexico for spring break 2008! Enjoy the breathtaking background of mountains, crystal clear water, whales and dolphins as you take in the warm sunshine from the cockpit of a sea kayak. Relax, snorkel or fish whiling enjoying dinner on the Sea of Cortez. This is a trip of a lifetime and available to any skill level of paddlers! Group Exercise Alternative and Exam Week Schedule
IMRS will be offering a Finals Week Group Exercise and Mind/Body schedule. Come take a break from studying and relax your body and mind with o
ur various yoga classes, or relieve some stress and tension by taking our uplifting group exercise classes. The schedule will be posted the week after Thanksgiving.
Also, IMRS we will be bringing two new classes to the Group Exercise and Mind/Body schedule in the Spring semester. They are called Turbo Kick™ and PiYo™. Turbo Kick™ will be offered during Fall 2007 Finals Week as a preview of what's to come in the Spring semester. You’ll kick, punch and groove the calories away in this action-packed, super fun, super safe and effective cardiovascular workout. PiYo™ is an athletic fusion-style strength & flexibility mat class. It combines Pilates, yoga, dance, and strength in a flowing sequence designed for those who like to move with grace and power.
Record Participation for Flag Football
The Intramural Flag Football participation numbers have reached record numbers this year. The Flag Football participation numbers topped 2100 this year and was over 250 from the previous year’s totals. The Intramural Sports Staff extends its gratitude for making Flag Football and the Fall Semester a success. The Fall Semester is almost over and so is Intramural Sports for the semester. The NCAA Bowl Pick’em is the only event left for the Fall Semester. The Spring Semester Schedule will be finalized soon and be posted on the website.
Ultimate Frisbee Host Harvest Moon Tournament
The University of Arkansas Men’s and Women’s Ultimate Frisbee Clubs co-hosted and participate
d in the 17th annual Harvest Moon Tournament on Nov. 3 & 4. The tournament is organized by the Fayetteville Disc Association (FDA). The U of A Sport Club Field was the host site for the men’s collegiate division and club veteran Karl Doege served as tournament director for this division. The tournament brought teams from across the region including schools such as Texas, Kansas, Missouri State, and Vanderbilt. The two men’s teams representing the U of A tied for fifth place.
Staff Highlight
Marcus Jackson
Facility Coordinator/Aquatics Director - IMRS
Marcus graduated from Wichita State University in May of 2005 with a B.S. in Sport Business/Administration. Marcus was working as a Graduate Assistant for Wichita State University and a Lead Admissions Supervisor at Wesley Medical Center before accepting the position as Facility Coordinator/Aquatics Director at Arkansas. He is still currently working on his M.Ed in Sport Business/Administration from Wichita State University. Marcus received his CPR/First Aid/AED Instructor’s and Lifeguard certification in July 2007. He has been a member of the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association for 1 year.
Marcus is responsible for assisting the Associate Director of Facilities in the management of the Intramural/Recreational Sports program and the HPER Building. Specific job duties include: hire, train, evaluate, and manage over 70 student employees, supervision of 3 full-time staff members, part-time student payroll operations, assist in the planning, staffing, and administration of all special events which require rental or reservation of the HPER Facility, work closely with student employee advisory board, attend numerous program, department, college, and university meetings, plan and develop job descriptions, handbooks, and other human resource materials, and other projects deemed necessary for the management of the IMRS program.
Intramual/Recreational Sports was delighted to have Marcus join the staff in July of 2007 serving as the Facility Coordinator/Aquatics Director. In his spare time Marcus likes to test the skills of the students at the university on the hardwood. We welcome Marcus to the IMRS staff and look forward to what he can bring to the table.
