Do you exercise? The IMRS staff certainly hopes that you do. Studies indicate that you will be a better student and a happier individual if you do. According to a 2006 report published by Trust for America’s Health (TFAH), Arkansas has an adult obesity rate of 26.4 percent, ranking it the 7th heaviest in the nation. It is our goal to keep you out of that segment of our population.
IMRS provides you with ample opportunities to participate in safe, healthy activities. Those activities range from group experiences to self-directed participation. Giving you a number of choices is one of the many benefits of a campus recreation program. As an example, the Fitness/Wellness Program will offer more than 2,000 hours of fitness programming this fall. That is in addition to the open hours of the Donna Axum Fitness Center. The Instructional Program Area has scheduled more than 1,600 hours of fitness and educational classes this semester.
I am extending a personal invitation to visit the HPER and work out. When you are here, do not hesitate to ask our knowledgeable staff for assistance. Also, keep us informed about new activities that you believe would be accepted. I am sure that you can find a program and activity that meets your needs. Have fun.
