Summer 2008 Group Exercise Instructors

 

 Ashlee Hamilton-G.A. for Group Fitness

 Currently teaches TurboKick

 Ashlee has been been teaching since the summer of 2004 and has taught just about every class including Boot Camp, Step Aerobics, Hip Hop, Water Aerobics, Abs, Power Pump, and Yoga Flow.  She especially enjoys teaching Boot Camp/Step because it's a high intensity athletic workout! Her certifications include AFAA Group Exercise Instructor, AFAA Personal Trainer, Les Mills BodyPump, BodyStep, and BodyFlow and PowerderBlue Productions, TurboKick and PiYo.  Ashlee is starting her 2nd year as the Group Fitness Graduate Assistant responsible for overseeing the Group Exercise Mind/Body  classes and exercise programs.

 Yen Nuygen

  Currently teaches Body Sculpt.

Yen is a senior marketing major with a minor in transportation. She graduates this spring and will continue teaching with us the summer of 08 before. She has completed her second semester with group exercise and she's really looking forward to teaching her new certification, TurboKick, this summer. Yen is certified as an AFAA group exercise instructor and has a specialty certification in TurboKick.

Amber

You'll see her back in the fall!

Amber is an Arkansas Alumni with an Accounting degree. She has been dancing since age three and competively since thirteen years old. She especially has a love for Hip Hop and Latin cardio. When not working during the day, you can usually find her at the gym, wellness center, or in the park. 

 "First comes the sweat and then comes the beauty if you're lucky and say your prayers."

 Lee Ann King

 Currently teaches Punch-n-Crunch and FIT

 Lee Ann is an AFAA certified group exercise instructor. Lee Ann has just completed her junior year as a  Biology major and this is going on her second year of teaching.  She loves to work out and helping others get excited about their personal fitness goals. One of her personal accomplishments is that she has seen every episode of FRIENDS and is also obsessed with Saturday Night Live.  She  loves finding humor in everything and believes you can never take working out too seriously or you'll have a hard time having fun with it.

 Meredith Moore

 Currently teaches FIT, Muscle Cut, and Turbo Abs

 Meredith is a junior nursing major from Jonesboro, AR.  She has been teaching since August of '06.  During that time, she has taught Boot Camp, Power Pump, Butt and Gutt, Cardio Attack, Bosu Cardio, Crunch Time, and Step Interval.  Meredith loves to work out in a group environment and to encourage others as they reach for their personal best.  Meredith one day would like to run the Chicago Marathon. Meredith is AFAA certified for group exercise and has recently recieved her TurboKick certification.

Chance Moore

  Currently teaches Muscle Cut and Martial Sciences

Chance is new to group exercise instructing but not to the area of fitness. He is also a nationally certified AFAA personal trainer and AFAA certified group exercise instructor.

 

 Lauren Abshier

 Currently teaches Step-n-Tone and FIT

 This is Lauren's second semester teaching! She is a sophomore middle level education major. She has a passion for working out and the instructor training program led to her involvement with group exercise. She loves encouraging others and showing them that working out can be fun! She recently recieved her TurboKick certification.

 Jennifer Schneider

 Currently teaches Ply-O pump, HEAT and 6-Pack

 Jennifer has been teaching for over two years now and currently teaches the ultimate sweating classes, Ply-O-Pump and HEAT. If you are looking for an instructor who knows how to give you an intense workout, this is her!  She is a junior diatetics/pre-med student. She is also certified through LesMills for BodyPump and RPM.

 

 Heather Arnold

Currently teaches Water Aerobics 

Heather has been been teaching Aqua Aerobics since the summer of 2003 and enjoys teaching because of the variation of workouts and intensities it allows, from rehabilitation to an intense cardio workout that both tones and strengthens the entire body, beginners to advanced fitness gurus can participate in the same class. Heather also enjoys teaching because, unlike high-impact classes, Aqua Aerobics is a low-impact workout that can burn from 450-650 calories/hour. Heather certifications include: American Red Cross-WSI & LGI, as well as an instructor & personal trainer through AquaLogix program.

 Brenda Flack

 Currently teaches Belly Dance

Brenda Flack is a graduate student in the Cell and Molecular Biology Department and has been teaching Tribal Style Belly Dance for 2 years. Tribal Style Belly Dance incorporates different styles of belly dance from Morroco, Egypt, and Turkey. It is a powerful dance that is designed for all women of any size and age.  Brenda believes that dancing not only helps to shape the body but also the mind.

Tracy Carter

Currently teaches Yoga Flow.

 Tracy has been teaching at the HPER for two semesters. She is PiYo certified as well as 300 hour certified. She will be teaching core yoga this summer, a new class with pilates incorporated.

 Todd Verrone

Currently teaches Yoga

Todd Verrone has been teaching since 2002. He teaches a general Hatha Yoga class in the Sivananda tradition with influences from and forays into the Lyengar and Ashtanga lexicons. Todd loves working with students on a regular basis and making progress in practice together. He is Yoga Alliance RYT-200 certified.

 

 Gee Rigo

Currently teaches Water Aerobics 

Gee has been teaching water aerobics since the summer of 2003.  She loves teaching water aerobics because she LOVES the water and can get great exercise from it.  She believes water aerobics is great for toning all over and really feels the body gets a fabulous work out. Gee used to be a swimmer so whatever exercise that involves the water she is willing to give it a try. She has a great time teaching water aerobics and looks forward to every class.

Lydia Michaels

 Currently teaches PiYo

Lydia Michaels just received her B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Arkansas.  She is originally from Conway, AR and she has been living in Fayetteville for the last two years.  She is certified in PiYo™ and is also trained in yoga, ballet and West African dance styles.   She incorporates blended movement and stretching styles into her classes to challenge and improve students’ strength, flexibility, balance and coordination.  Lydia will be teaching during the months of May and June, so try to check out one of her classes this summer!

 

Monique St. Pierre

 Currently teaches PiYo,  Body Sculpt,  and Hip Hop Hustle

Monique is an AFAA certified group exercise instructor. She is a junior exercise physiology/Biomechanics major and plans on going to PT school to become a physical therapist. This is her first year teaching group fitness and recently she's been certified in PiYo. She has been dancing since the age of two and loves choreographing. Currently, she is dancing and choreographing for a semi-pro dance squad. Monique loves working out and loves showing others how to enjoy a workout.

Brooke Grover

Currently teaches water aerbics, PiYo and Body Sculpt

She is a junior Dietetics major with a minor in global studies. She is an AFAA certified group exercise instructor and has been teaching at the HPER since Spring 08. Although this is her first year teaching, she has been involved in fitness for most of her life. She loves the motivation and support of working out in a class setting and used her excitement to encourage others.

Anita Turnbaugh

Currently teaching  Water Aerobics

AFAA group exercise certified instructor. Growing up in Montana, Anita developed a love for fitness and the outdoors. She enjoys keeping her workouts diverse by doing activites such as backpacking and running as well as teaching group exercise for the HPER. This is her first semester teaching aerobics and she was certified by the instructor training program throught the U of A. 

Amy Grove

Currently teaching Yoga Appreciation.

Amy began practicing yoga through rehabilitation due to a car accident and she credits yoga for her strong recovery from a back and brain injury last year. She has recently recieved her certification through Yoga Alliance but has been teaching yoga for the past year through private instruction. Her purpose is to help people find an enjoyable experience in their beginning yoga practice by developing a mind/body connection.
