Equipment

  1. Only non-marking shoes will be allowed. Basketball style shoes are preferred
  2. Jewelry or hard hair-control devices will not be allowed. This includes, but is not limited to, necklaces, earrings, newly pierced earrings, facial piercings, rings, bracelets, and watches. Individuals will not be allowed to tape over any jewelry item. If you cannot remove the item, then you CANNOT play.
  3. Headwear - Players may wear a one-piece elastic headband made of a soft pliable material. Rubber or elastic cloth bands may be used to control hair. No other headwear will be allowed. No baseball caps, bandannas (including "Do-rags") or helmets.

Game Rules

  1. All baskets shall be worth one (1) point. No two or three-pointers will be counted.
  2. Half-Court basketball game played between two teams of three (3) players.
  3. Teams are allowed up to 5 players on their roster, however only 3 may be on the court from one team at one time. Teams may begin a game with two (2) players.
  4. Games will be played to eleven (11), or fifteen (15) minutes running clock, whichever comes first. Teams do not have to win by two.
  5. OVERTIME: If the game is tied at the end of the 15 minutes, an overtime period will be played. The first team to score two (2) points in the overtime period will be the winner.
  6. No timeouts, except for injuries.
  7. Substitutions—Substitutions may be made during dead ball periods only (after a basket, or any stoppage of play). The ball must always be rechecked after any substitution.
  8. Ball possession changes after each made basket (no make-it-take-it rule).
  9. To begin the game or after a score, a player must pass the ball in play from beyond the check line (at the top of the key). The imaginary check line shall be the 3-point line. On defensive steals or rebounds, the ball must be returned to the check line, and the team in possession of the ball must maintain control and attempt to score. The player in possession of the ball on a rebound or steal does not have to pass the ball in play, they may retain possession, however on every change of possession, the ball must be taken back behind the checkline with both feet of the player behind the checkline. Failure to do this will result in loss of possession.
  10. Deliberate stalling shall result in loss of possession. To avoid a stalling violation a player must be making forward progress with the ball. The basket monitor has power to take away possession for stalling, and may issue a verbal warning before taking away possession.

Fouls

  1. The game is self-officiated. Either team may call fouls at any time. However, calls are usually reserved for fouls, by the defense, which deprive an offensive player from scoring and/or fouls, by the offense, which enable a basket to be scored by an unfair act by an offensive player against a defensive player. Off the ball fouls should rarely be called, just as violations such as traveling. Constant calling of trivial fouls will take away from game time and decrease the general enjoyment of the game. Fouls may be called on shots up to the time of the basket or on a miss, the ball hitting the rim or backboard.
  2. No free throws will be shot. The team that was fouled will retain possession at the top of the key, and play will begin with the ball being checked.
  3. Court Monitor: Each court will have a court monitor whose job it is to keep score, and rule on any disputes. If the court monitor feels that he/she cannot fairly rule on the dispute, then the team that last had possession of the ball shall retain possession from the checkline (top of the key).
